The City of Waterloo is launching an assisted snow clearing program supporting residents who are 65 years of age and older and individuals with physical disabilities.

“We recognize the importance of complete communities which involves developing new programs that offer accessible and inclusive services,” said Tiffany Smith, manager of senior services and community services with the City of Waterloo. “The snow assist program will address common winter sidewalk difficulties experienced by those with physical limitations.”

Eligible residents are asked to apply by Oct. 31, 2023 for the upcoming snow season. Thanks to an early launch the service will be available, with a limited number of spots, on or after Nov. 15, 2023 through April 15, 2024. The City expects the program will expand next year due to demand.

“The program was created from community feedback and the city plans to gather further input from homeowners and the community, after this first trial season, to inform changes for next winter,” added Smith.

More information about the program can be found at www.waterloo.ca/snow-assist.
